New Moon Overload?

It’s another day and yet another clip from New Moon has been released. Essentially this clip (embedded below) is just an extenstion of the trailer that has been out since the summer. Instead of seeing Bella receiving a paper cut and the aftermath, we see the events leading up to the paper cut heard round the world.

Like I said, it is nothing special. But this clip begs a question. Is there such thing as too much hyping? For movies such as the Twilight franchise, there is no such thing. These movies have a life all of there own and there is nothing that will change that. This type of marketing – rehyping the same scenes – is actually quite ingenius; enough fan hype is generated without killing the buzz.

But consider a show like Glee, which I fear is quickly becoming too overhyped. Yes, seeing the cast perform at the World Series (GO YANKEES!) is fantastic. But being inundated with preview clips during the week kills some of the buzz surrounding the upcoming week’s episode.

I realize that we are dealing with two very different examples here – one is a film that after Nov. 20 won’t be hyped about at all and the other is a tv show that depends on weekly promotions. But these are points to consider. I wonder – will Glee wear out its welcome because of over-promotion? Maybe not this season, but in the seasons to come, perhaps.
