It’s National Umbrella Month!

As someone who has not owned an umbrella in almost two years, I was surprised to learn that March is National Umbrella Month. Naturally, this led me to Google all things umbrella and not only is an umbrella the title a very catchy Rihanna song, but a pretty nifty object.

Did you know, for instance, that the umbrella was invented over four thousand years ago? Their purpose (protection from the sun and rain) has remained practically the same over the years. Except when Gene Kelly got his hands on an umbrella. Or rather, tossed it to the side and danced.

Another recent (and frankly weird) umbrella contraption is the Air Umbrella. It simply blows away the rain. How this umbrella will survive a heavy rainfall, I don’t know. But the Air Umbrella is pretty wild. Maybe I should get one to replace my non-existent umbrella.
