2005 is almost over and there are still tons of movies I have to see before the Academy Awards. Every year for the past 2 years, I have done something called “Cinefille’s Oscar Fest”. Being the lunatic that I am I try to see every movie nominated in 7 main categories — Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actress Best Foreign Film. I try to complete this task before the Oscars and I try to see as many as I can in the theater. I get can crazy; last year, I saw three in one weekend. But I never can seem to finish and I don’t think this year is going to be any different.
I was looking over my list of movies I still have see (and it’s a lot) and I realized I made two crucial mistakes that have come back to bite me in the ass. When A History of Violence was released, I didn’t go to see it because I decided I wouldn’t like it before seeing it. Stupid me now every one is saying that it is one of the best of ’05. I still haven’t seen Walk the Line because stupid me thought that it would be in theaters for a while so the one weekend my father was free to see it, it wasn’t there anymore. Wish me luck because I’m going to need it. Here are movies I still have to see:
Brokeback Mountain
Walk the Line
Capote
A History of Violence
Hustle and Flow
North Country
Mrs. Henderson Presents
Breakfast on Pluto
The Producers
Transamerica
The Constant Gardener
Cache
Mysterious Skin
My Summer of Love
Howl’s Moving Castle
Munich
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada
The Squid and the Whale
Downfall
King Kong
Junebug
Grizzly Man
The Aristocrats
The Best of Youth
Match Point
Broken Flowers
Head-On
Look at Me
There are probably more that I missed. I don’t know anymore. One day this whole seeing-every-movie-ever-made obsession will drive me insane.
