  1. I really want to like this movie, but Rotten Tomatoes has my hopes down a little bit. I generally hate remakes, but with such and incredible cast, it’s almost required viewing. I will try to see this one. And the Black Dahlia, which I also really want to like despite bad ratings.

  2. Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins are supposed to be superb. They might be the reason to it.

At least you know its a remake. I watching TV with a group and the trailer for this came on.

“Oh, I want to see this. It looks good”.

    Me: “No you don’t”

    “But the cast is awesome.”

“No, you don’t. It has a bad rating on Rotten Tomatoes.”

“Have you seen the 1949 version that won Best Picture?”

    “I didn’t know it was a remake.”

Also, the current version is about 30 minutes longer than the original. And I don’t know what possibly could’ve been added to the remake to make it better than the original

  3. Patricia Clarkson and Kate Winslet! Their appearance in the same movie should indicate nothing but awesome, should it not? This makes me a sad panda.

  4. True, Winslet and Clarkson are good reasons to see any movie especially when they’re in the same movie.

But only great actors can make bad scripts with weak subplots worth seeing. Which is exactly what Sean Penn does.

Willie Stark IS the perfect role for Penn. But not even a great actor like Sean Penn can fix the film’s many flaws.

The main reason it’ll be hard for me to enjoy this film (whenever I get around to seeing it)is because the original is a great political movie and it’s great everytime I see it.
