Picture This: Tiffany’s Without Audrey Hepburn

Can you imagine Breakfast at Tiffany’s without Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly? It would be a completely different movie, but that is how Truman Capote wanted it. The author of the 1958 novella wanted Marilyn Monroe, not Hepburn, to play the iconic New York party girl.

According to this AP article, “Capote complained that the elegant Hepburn was miscast as Holly, a Texas runaway who reinvents herself as a Manhattan It Girl. The Holly of Capote’s imagination was a blonde like Monroe, who had a challenging childhood growing up as Norma Jeane Baker.”

It is crazy to think of how the film would have been received had Monroe played that part and not Hepburn. I don’t think it would be as cherished as it is today and more importantly, Blair Waldorf’s entire existence would be changed.

This is just another example of how you can’t judge a movie by the book it is based on.

Natalie Does Her Best Audrey

In the November issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Natalie Portman dons the little black dress made famous by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. And she makes it completely her own. Check out the gorgeous pictures. [SOURCE]

Natalie wore the 35-year old dress in hopes of promoting style fans to spend more money when it is auctioned off in December. Proceeds from the auction, on December 5, will go to City Of Joy Aid – a charity organization that helps India’s poor. The dress is expected to fetch upwards of $94,000. [SOURCE]

Sigh. If only I had $94,000.
