Wow. I’m actually surprised. Like really surprised.
1) There were no nominations Best Picture or Directing nominations for Into the Wild.
2) The surprise (but welcomed) nominations for Ruby Dee (!) and Hal Holbrook (!)
3) Tommy Lee Jones and Laura Linney received acting nominations, over Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.
4) Jason Reitman and Tony Gilroy received directing nominations (Joe Wright and Sean Penn did not)
5) Not so unexpected: No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood receiving the most Oscar nominations (8). But Michael Clayton received six.
So wow. Lots of surprises this year (for once). And I’m actually looking foward to seeing who wins because the award season has been all over the place meaning that the Oscars really is anyones bet.
