Just read this news on EW:
MTV is planning to remake the cult TV show Skins, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The original British version of the show, which concerns the lives of a group of teenagers, is notable for its foul-mouthed scripts and depictions of drug use.
Skins is one of my all-time favorite shows. I have written countless articles on the show for both the Mount Holyoke News and on this blog. I have even been known to recap an episode or two of the third season.
I suppose it was only a matter of time before Skins was remade for American audiences, even more so after Dev Patel (Anwar on Skins) became a major name after starring in Slumdog Millionaire.
But MTV’s remake troubles me. I consider Skins to be one of the best, if not the best, teen drama on television. What shows like The OC, 90210 and Gossip Girl lack (ahem, reality), Skins achieves by creating characters that are relatable and intriguing. MTV better not screw this up, or I will be very disappointed.
Thoughts?
apprehensive at best. i agree mtv better not screw up one of my favorite shows.
It's probably going to suck. I don't think anything on MTV right now is "quality television"
